I've been fortunate lately with some computer components as gifts from family. These helped me set up virtualization systems and other projects, plus some old parts from a friend who upgraded their setup. But I missed one thing: I have no extra DDR4 chips. That’s exactly what these devices require. Here’s the breakdown: I own three machines, each with a DDR4 kit (G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB, 2x8GB at 3200MHz). Right now, I swap RAM between systems as needed—when working on one, I power off the current machine and install the new one. This avoids damaging slots or DIMMs every time. My desktop PC (with a decent laptop) currently holds the kit, running an R7 2700X and an Asus ROG Strix X470. The second system (for my girlfriend) has an i5 6600K and an Asus STRIX Z270G motherboard. The third is my future home server, using a TR 1920X and an ASRock Fatal1ty X399. I’m looking for used or refurbished RAM options. Since I’ve never bought hardware online before, I want something reliable. Ideally, I’d like a 2x16GB kit for the third system (or maybe 4x16GB if I have space), without worrying about frequency or ECC requirements. For the Intel machine, any working kit should do—preferably without a heat spreader, unless I want to add one later. If not, I can install an aftermarket one. Thanks for the advice. I believe this will suit your intel setup well. It seems I was hoping that since DDR4 has become more common, I could find some affordable server RAM. Regarding your second comment, as a recent high school student, I don’t think flipping parts or starting from scratch would be practical.
