I placed myself in the first match against GN4s and then faced MG1s in the second. I wasn’t ranked, so I wondered why I chose MG1s over others. Someone could clarify my reasoning.
Winning against Novas means you outperform her. Falling to MGs indicates you lag behind them. Focus on narrowing the gap.
Unranked simply indicates your score isn't visible, not that it doesn’t apply. Each player has a personal Elo value, which influences their MM standing. Being unranked means your Elo swings a lot after every match. Valve encourages you to play a few games so your rating settles before showing a rank, since they’re still estimating your skill until they collect enough data—this is why the 10 win point threshold exists.
It happened to me too—I played against the Supremes, DMG's, and LEM's. When I won my 10th match, I got ranked MG1. It's not uncommon, but I haven't seen many people reaching such high ranks in matches.
