Looking for a method to keep Windows 7 getting free updates past January 14, 2020? I've already explored similar approaches for XP, but it seems those aren't available for Windows 7 either. Since both Windows Server 2008 R2 and 7 share the same EOL date, it looks like updating isn't possible through standard means. Let me know if you'd like alternatives!
Based on my understanding, most people wouldn’t be able to buy premium support despite wanting it and having the means.
Exploits would only become clear once the support was discontinued. Didn't Microsoft provide an additional six months for XP?
You prefer keeping Windows 7 because it still works well for your needs.
Honestly, the main reason to stick with Windows 7 is for those of us using Windows Media Center that Microsoft gave away free with the operating system. I use it to watch TV via a cable card tuner. I intend to keep this machine running past the support deadline because it only offers two features: cable TV and streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and ESPN+. No other internet browsing is supported. The other workstation PCs have already been upgraded to Windows 10, which is a solid system, and both are set to postpone updates. We haven’t encountered any issues so far.
