I want to build a ryzen system with first ryzen 5 1500x so i want a mobo that supports future upgrades. I saw msi b450 tomahawk max does support all ryzen gen cpus, but i dont know if it can handle OC since first and second gen can give a lot more performance. This is my first build so any advice you have about ram, OC is appreciated
The 1500x seems odd, but it works for most planes except the A320. The Tomahawk model comes with standard installation.
Not the X570 model. Those back support for the first-gen Ryzen chips are gone. https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/PRI...pDesk_CPU/ While I wouldn’t recommend using an A320 outside an office setup, some makers have upgraded the BIOS and Asus says it can handle a 3950X in this board: https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/PRI...pDesk_CPU/ (But it’s really unsettling to imagine the VRM struggling to power a 16-core).
He definitely wants to begin with a first-generation 1500x chip while still having room to upgrade later. I’m sure he thought they secured an excellent offer, as buying a brand-new 1500x would simply be unreasonable.
I was considering an MSI B450 or B450X, just need to locate a model that supports OC.
