Hello, I discovered this motherboard+CPU set on Aliexpress. It's from Huananzhi, featuring a 48c/96t chipset at 2.6GHz base and 3.3GHz turbo. I'm considering upgrading my PC and this could help me try virtualization. I want to know if Huananzhi is reliable, whether the motherboard is solid, and if it's worth purchasing.
I wouldn't rely on that motherboard... the VRMs fans seem questionable... sorry, thanks. Likely a hassle with bios updates and compatibility issues. This eBay seller advertised on the Servethehome forum thread about great deals, and he even answered questions there. There are many motherboards, CPUs, and RAM options available, allowing you to choose between high core count or better performance per core. The 7K62 with that board is listed for $299: https://www.ebay.com/itm/176524151074, while the CPU with the same board is sold for $788: https://www.ebay.com/itm/176967400723. Alternatively, you could purchase a Supermicro board for $840: https://www.ebay.com/itm/176821597878 or $818 with a Gigabyte MZ32-AR board: https://www.ebay.com/itm/175517216924. You’d need at least four RAM sticks, preferably DDR4 ECC registered.
I own a local setup using an Epyc 7571 with a Supermicro H11SSL for 500€, but it doesn’t support the Epyc Rome or Milan models. I’m aware of ECC DDR4 memory and could purchase 128GB for an additional 80€. The main issue is financing this configuration, while I can manage it through AliExpress.
