It's interesting to see how technology has evolved. When I first needed DDR2, it was quite costly, so I waited until DDR3 became common and Intel iX Core chips arrived. I owned a Core 2 Duo before that. That MSI board supports 1600mhz DDR3 and 16GB RAM, whereas the Gigabyte model only accommodated up to 4GB on DDR3. I also appreciated the rainbow-colored RAM slots on the Gigabyte. Still, there are 288 pins for both types. I think eventually cheaper Chinese adapters will emerge that match the requirements without sacrificing performance. Usually, these don't work well and can't handle the speed. I was reminded of Linus' video about the DDR4 M.2 adapter.
The first point is that this gigabyte board costs around $230, while the ddr4 version is cheaper. The second point suggests MSI offers better options for overclocking and they’re available in DDR5.
With AsRock around, you can't predict anything. It's wise to stay alert. They're probably the ones to create it if we ever see it.
Yup, like this ddr3/ddr4 board https://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/B150M Combo-G/ but apparently there were some from other companies too. This kinda only makes sense in a transitional phase, so if someone does it, it should be within the next year or so imo
The AsRock Dual SATA II S939 included a riser board for AM2 processors too. They created some truly unique boards.
They mentioned gigabytes with DDR4 and M.2 SSDs, which made sense. The gaming community name felt a bit unclear to me. It seems Apex is the main platform they're using now.
