Here are some solid free video editing options that work with Avchd and Windows 8.1.
Blender could be a solution... It's designed for 3D modeling and animation, yet it supports video editing as well. The main advantage is setting up a virtual machine on Linux to run Kdenlive, or using the official KdenLive-VirtualBox-image. Windows doesn't offer strong video editing tools, while Linux platforms provide superior alternatives to top-tier editors.
I suggest using a virtualization tool like VirtualBox or VMware to set up a virtual machine. For dual-booting Linux, you can follow online tutorials that guide you through the process step by step.
You have the flexibility to dual-boot easily. A tool named WUBI lets you pick between Windows or Ubuntu at boot. If you no longer need it, simply remove it via the Windows uninstaller and everything resets. This method offers a straightforward approach to dual-booting and works well for both beginners and seasoned users seeking optimal performance. Learn more about Wubi here: http://wubi.sourceforge.net/faq.php https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WubiGuide I don’t have a specific tutorial for VirtualBox, but based on popularity and engagement, these resources appear useful.
Thank you for the clarification. It seems Windows 8.1 isn't compatible. "Therefore, Wubi won't function on a new Windows 8 machine." I'll definitely investigate further. Windows Movie Maker feels too simple, but I'm considering Avidemux instead.
