Do you have any personal experiences to share? I’ve relocated my secondary workstation and can’t connect it via cable anymore (it’s on the other side of the house), so I’m switching back to Wi-Fi. It’s running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, and I’m not sure if I can reload the kernel quickly right now (at work), though I believe it’s version 4.13.

It might not be ideal, but the CanaKit Raspberry Pi USB adapter performs adequately when needed.

You might want to avoid the PCI Wi-Fi adapter because you've been using it on your current rig for five years and plan to switch to a new one.
