Search for a suitable CPU for your new GTX 3070 graphics card.
Hi! I’m preparing to upgrade my PC with my dad and have spotted the new GTX card. I’m unsure which processor fits best for my needs. I intend to use it for VR gaming, desktop applications, and streaming on Twitch. Below are the details I have:
- Motherboard: ASRock A320M-HDV R4.0
- OS: Windows 10 Home 64-bit
- RAM: 16 GB
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660
- Monitor: 1920x1080, 60 Hz
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 2300X (4 cores, 3500 MHz)
- BIOS: UEFI
- Connectors: AMD USB 3.0, USB 3.10, NVIDIA USB 3.10, USB Type-C
My Oculus Rift S works well for VR but could benefit from an upgrade. What should I choose?
Your budget is the amount you have available. You play various games in VR, and also enjoy playing other types of games regularly.
I’d settle for a Ryzen 7 3700x, even though it feels awkward with that A320 board. The 2300x is also a 65w chip, so it doesn’t really matter. Of course, having an RTX 3070 is still a waste on your 1080p 60hz screen.
I have a modest to average budget. My dad wouldn’t approve swapping the motherboard. We got a standard build from CyberPower and just upgraded the graphics card to the 1660. Everything else is factory. We’re not aiming for a big spend, mainly because it’s mostly for gifts around Christmas. I’m 16 and a half years old. I’m evaluating the B450 and specifically want high frame rates. Which B450 model do you suggest? Also, I’m not sure about my power supply but am open to suggestions. I play mostly graphical and some non-graphical games plus shooters. Edit: I’ve picked the Ryzen 5 2600 but what about a CPU cooler? Any advice? Edit 2: I’m considering the Sycthe Shuriken 2 for a CPU cooler. Would that suffice? I also need a decent power supply under $90. Edited September 4, 2020 by nerv0x Info Pt2
