Hi everyone. I'm searching for a laptop that can run Pop_OS smoothly. I'm currently using a Lenovo Legion 5 and have a few issues: loud fans, occasional overheating, and low battery life (it only works well with Nvidia). I'd prefer to get another machine just for Linux to avoid dual-boot complications. Thanks!

There are methods to adjust fan settings and modify power profiles or switch mux in Pop OS, which could resolve the issue. This guide is for Mint and some components don't function properly, but it includes a solution for battery problems. You can find more details at the provided links. For tuning fan curves via BIOS, higher fan speeds and temperatures are common in gaming laptops. If your BIOS lacks this feature, refer to the resource. For ARGB (keyboard backlight), use Open RGB.

Previously attempted. Fans activate when I connect an external monitor and the laptop is idle.

Instead of purchasing a system76 laptop, you can directly back the company behind Pop_OS.

Have you experimented with using compressed air to clear dust? I once had a laptop that almost caught on fire if placed on its underside. I blew it out, but it was hard to tell if it was getting warm or just cool.

I maintain it every six months. It doesn't occur on Windows systems. I considered System76 but am uncertain about warranty matters in the UK. I'm generally unlucky with recent electronics purchases...

The X260 with 16GB RAM seems suitable to me. Running a Linux distribution doesn’t require anything special. I’ve never faced any financial issues on eBay.

I'm considering a slim setup and thinking about new Dell XPS or Lenovo YogaSlim 7i Pro (Intel) or one of the Asus models. Of course, no touch screens. Or something from European Linux communities.

Here are some examples of manufacturers that support or specialize in Linux: https://www.tuxedocomputers.com/en/Linux...oks.tuxedo https://starlabs.systems/ https://puri.sm/products/librem-14/ https://laptopwithlinux.com/ https://frame.work/ If you use an Acer laptop or another brand with Intel or AMD processors, it should generally work fine. Always verify online whether your specific model is compatible with Linux in this situation.

Some developer laptops include Linux by default. However, they may not reduce fan noise effectively. Dual booting can be challenging initially but becomes manageable over time. You'll discover ways to handle it. Use the rEFInd Boot Manager and also explore mounting the EFI partition via the command line.
