I play games at 1440p Ultrawide (3440x1440) mostly. Recently, I tried showing SOT on my 4k60 TV just to check how it looks. I was surprised to find slightly better performance than usual. It seems the CPU might be the limiting factor, with extra screen content slowing things down. This setup uses a 7820x @ 4.6GHz, 32gb 3600c16, and 2080 ti FTW3. The FPS gap is similar at 4.8GHz and 5GHz. You can view the hardware stats and FPS in the screenshots.

Regarding your ship at sea, there seems to be a variation in FPS. In the outposts, it typically drops to about 80-90 FPS. The reason for this isn't clear yet.

On my ship and about 95% of the time it stays locked at 97fps. My ultrawide is 100Hz. The game runs smoothly. I just found it intriguing to try 4k and notice a slight increase in fps.
Your question sparked my interest in what would happen with unpaced frames and less crowded scenes...

When uncapped, it runs at 105FPS at 4k and 145FPS at 1440p ultrawide. This matches what I expected. Others I've talked to and streamers watching seem to experience around 80-90FPS in the outposts. It's unclear why this differs from my setup, but it might just be a game limitation.
