Hello, I’m facing a challenge with my setup. My laptop runs an i7 processor, comes with a GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q graphics card, and has a 144Hz display. The operating system is Windows 10 Pro version 21H2, installed on May 2nd, 2022, build 19044.1288. It’s an HP Omen 15-dc1xx model, originally shipped without any OS, so I had to install Windows from scratch.

I’ve been having issues with certain games—Overwatch, Hearthstone, Tropico 4, Dragon Age 1 & 2, Bugsnax, Cities:Skylines, Sims 4, Sea of Thieves—and when using VLC player (especially at high speed), the screen would freeze after about 30 minutes, then go black. Sound stayed for a short time, but the cursor disappeared. I’ve tried everything: reinstalling Windows, updating drivers, adjusting graphics settings, changing resolutions, disabling VT-D, and even switching to G-Sync. The black screen persisted even after four hours.

This only happens with those specific titles and VLC, not with more demanding games like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Red Dead Redemption 2, Ghostwire Tokyo, or Cyberpunk 2077. I haven’t experienced this before with other games. I connected another monitor and it worked, suggesting a software issue rather than hardware failure.

I’ve also tried uninstalling Nvidia drivers, rolling back to an older version, reinstalling all manufacturer drivers, using GeForce Experience, running games in administrator mode, disabling overlays, and checking the Event Viewer. Still no clear solution.

Some users say it’s linked to a faulty Xbox controller, but I don’t have one connected. I’ve been searching online for answers, but most threads don’t help. I’m hoping you can assist me in fixing this so I can enjoy my games with friends without interruptions.

This appears to be a hardware problem needing an RMA or warranty replacement.

It doesn't seem to be a hardware problem. Multiple checks confirmed everything is fine, and the screen turns black even when using a second monitor. This suggests the issue isn't related to panel hardware.
