Screen shake, crashes, and poor loading?
I have a Ryzen 9 3900X with an I5 13600KF, the power supply seems to be around 1200 watts as I recall, and I have 16x2GB RAM sticks. The specifications are a bit inconsistent, but this might help pinpoint the issue. Recently, while playing demanding games, I noticed more frequent crashes, especially with newer titles. The problem worsened when some of my applications stopped loading properly. Discord loads about 90%, but only 10% appears, and when I hover over what's missing, it still loads. This happens on most websites too. I have fast internet, so it’s not the network issue. It also causes the screen to shake slightly on sites like Twitter and YouTube.
I’ve tried changing RAM, ensuring proper thermal paste, cleaning drives, and reinstalling Windows, but the issue remains. I’ve switched monitors and moved games to different drives, assuming it’s not an SSD problem. During crashes, no part of my PC has failed completely, so I’m not sure if the power supply is the cause. Task Manager isn’t showing any bottlenecks before the crashes either.
If anyone knows how to fix this or has any suggestions, it would be really helpful.
Update your post with complete hardware specifications and operating system details. Check the Reliability History/Monitor for any error codes, warnings, or relevant events recorded near the time of the issues. Each entry can be expanded for further insight. Keep in mind that a 1200-watt PSU doesn’t rule it out as a possible cause; a lower-tier PSU might struggle with fluctuating power demands. Additional information is needed for a clearer analysis.
Here are the full PC specifications you requested. I've kept the structure and details consistent while rephrasing slightly. The information about the PSU, motherboard, and RAM is included, along with a note on the RAM's XMP profile.
Motherboard: Z790 AORUS ELITE AX DDR4
GPU: MSI - GeForce RTX 4090 GAMING X TRIO 24G
CPU: 13th Gen Intel® Core i5-13600KF
Ram: Kingston FURY Beast 32GB (2x16GB) 3200MHz DDR4
PSU: CORSAIR RMX Series (2021), RM1000x, 1000 Watt, Gold, Fully Modular Power Supply, Black (Works with RTX 4000 series GPU and PCIe 5.0)
my friend added extra cables to the PSU to support the 4090, I’m not sure if that helped
My SSD with Windows: Kingston SA400S37120G
My SSD with most games: PNY CS2140 2TB
I’m trying to remember if I missed anything important
Also, I’ve switched the GPU from my old 2070 and the issue persists, so I’m wondering if it’s the graphics card or the power supply.
It seems the issue remains unchanged? For example, Discord failing to load before crashing. Did the cables provided by your friend include a Corsair PSU? Could you request assistance from your friend?
In the initial stages, most smaller applications such as Discord and Google Chrome would fail to load properly. Several games have experienced crashes; for instance, I encountered Doom Eternal where the screen initially appeared completely black. When attempting a windowed or borderless setup, it functioned, but the lighting effects were distorted, causing me to quickly lose track of my position on the map whenever I tried to move. Regarding the PSU components, all parts came from the original box, and I’m not aware of any additional external cables being required.
