Screen lights up but is too dark to read what you are looking at.
Hi everyone, I'm having a problem with my new laptop (Rog Strix G16). When I turn it off and back on, the screen stays dim even though I used high brightness before. The slider shows 100% like last time, but the actual light is very low. Sometimes setting the brightness helps after turning it off. It's brand new and I've already tried resetting it once. Now I found out this isn't a problem if I turn it off and then back on without fast startup being active. If I just restart the laptop normally, the brightness stays perfect even though I used high power before. Anyone else getting this same issue? Should I turn off fast startup or just keep adjusting the slider with my keyboard until it works? Cheers!
Here is a laptop, specifically the ROG Strix G16 (2023) model with code G614J, from an Asus source link: https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/...4_G614J_A.pdf. I went through some display settings and other stuff but couldn't figure out where all the windows and menus were. Just to be safe, make sure you scroll up or down on those laptop windows so nothing gets missed. Some buttons say "Save," "Ok," or "Yes." There might also be small text that warns about a conflict between fast startup and those buttons. Page 41 even explains how to change brightness with the Fn keys. It could be that using these keys while playing video games is causing what happens, so check carefully if you are gaming.
That's the one! Thanks so much! I checked online and saw another person having the exact same problem as me. The maker said they tested their stuff, but no conflict there, so it must be Windows. Should I turn off startup? Yes, that fixes it and only makes loading slower by about 0.3 seconds on my Nvme SSD. Thanks for your help!
Turn off "fast startup". Hibernation is different from a full power down. Checking that link might help if your settings change without restarting, but right now there are no issues. If adding just 0.3 seconds to the load time fixes an annoying problem, I'll turn it off and watch things closely for any other changes to happen.
You're very welcome! I really appreciate you reaching out. This is mostly a software glitch, not a broken part, so other people with the same problem might hit the exact same wall. Do you think I should take this to get fixed or can you try it yourself? Thanks again.
