I'm facing an issue with my LG 32" 4K HDR monitor while playing Fallout 4. The main challenge is choosing between windowed mode with 2K resolution or full screen, which causes the game to box itself in the corner. When adjusting settings, it switches to fullscreen in 4K but the HUD and crosshair shift noticeably left. There seems to be no straightforward way to fix the scaling correctly. My system is a Xeon X3460 with a slightly overclocked 16GB DDR3 GX970 SSC processor running Fallout 4 on ultra settings.
I encountered the same problem and discovered a solution... though I don't understand the reasoning behind it. The process mainly requires repeatedly switching tabs while the game is loading. It's not from the desktop but from the main menu screen where you can continue, load, inspect mods, etc.—the part with the camera around the power armor in the garage and the Fallout soundtrack at the initial menu. I'm unsure why this works, but it does. I faced exactly the same issue on my ultra wide 1440p monitor, and after doing this, the game goes full screen without issues, except the UI might not fit properly. If that happens, just reload your save and avoid going back to the menu—just pause and immediately reload your file; the UI should then adjust. It's not perfect since you have to repeat it each time, but it's better than nothing. Remember to load your save and then start switching tabs repeatedly in and out of the loading screen (especially when rotating assets). Eventually, the screen format will change to match your setup. If it doesn't, keep switching tabs. If the game loads before you fix it, return to the main menu, reload your save, and try again. It might take some practice, but I'm confident it works 100% of the time. I recently finished a full playthrough and completed the Far Harbour DLC, so I'm confident in the result.
