Screen goes black during GPU stress
Screen goes black during GPU stress
CPU: AMD Athlon X4 840
Motherboard: ASUS A68HM
GPU: XFX RX580 8GB
PSU: RAPTOR 600W
OS: Windows 10
I recognize my build is quite old, but I and my friends chose to upgrade our GPUs first. We all have very similar systems, so I thought if the GPU worked for them, it would work for me too. Before installing, I ran DDU and installed the latest AMD drivers. But once I opened advanced video settings in cs2, my screen went black while the PC continued running. Later, when testing other games and doing some GPU stress tests online, I got the same issue. The only solution was to shut down the system. The GPU I bought was used, but the seller had a great reputation and confirmed all GPUs were tested and cleaned. I also tried it on my friend’s PC, which worked perfectly. My PSU was also used but in good condition. AMD mentioned that a 500W PSU should suffice for this GPU, so I’m unsure if that’s the problem. Anyone have any suggestions?
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
Motherboard: ASUS A68HM
What BIOS version are you running for your motherboard?
Power Supply: RAPTOR 600W
You mentioned this unit:

Is that correct?
If so, how old is this device and what was its power supply during its operation?
AMD also mentions that approximately 500W should suffice for a system with this GPU, which makes me wonder if the problem lies elsewhere.
Regarding the PSU, it's important to note that power supplies degrade over time, reducing their output. If the build quality is poor, you might face more than just performance issues.
Additionally, the GPU in question was likely used for intensive tasks like mining, which could have put it under stress.
I've also tested this GPU on a friend's system and it functioned properly.
What are the specifications of the PSU powering your friend's PC?
My PSU was previously used but remained in excellent condition.
This seems to be a poor decision.
I'm not sure which version of the BIOS I have, do you think that would be useful?
Regarding the PSU, the box lists an Raptor 600 element, but I can't locate it online—it's about two years old. My friend has a slightly better processor and a 650W PSU from an unknown brand.
I was also considering using older versions of AMD drivers.
