While eating dinner I noticed a single horizontal line on my main monitor. I changed cables and ports on the graphics card but the issue persisted. The line becomes thicker when I reduce the refresh rate or switch resolutions. It didn’t appear after touching the screen, but after a firm tap it pulses less and sometimes vanishes. Does this suggest a loose internal connection or that the display itself failed?

It seems like the screen might be showing empty or distorted images. Could you check the display settings or try a different area?

Likely there are no functioning pixels left.

No, dead pixels do not flicker or disappear when you hit them. They remain static unless the display is reset or repaired.

They can be resolved by sending it in for repair or applying dead pixel stress tests. These tests help identify issues where pixels fade and lose color, which can cause flickering. Sometimes this method resolves the problem, though it didn't work for me before. It's safe to try, but results may vary.

What? The dead pixels appear in a single row? It seems like a possible loose connection @White3859

I’m checking the device for any obvious issues. I’ve tested all graphics ports and four cables—two display ports and two HDMI. HDMI shows the thickest line and the most graphical distortion.

I disassembled it and destroyed every connection. The trace remains but is much dimmer now. It keeps flickering and vanishes entirely. Oddly, it disappears only when viewing the image in full screen, while a windowed view preserves it.

Can you remove the back cover and verify that all internal connectors are securely attached? I understand some folks prefer not to open things up, and I’m guessing the cable leading to the display panel—a thin, wide white wire—is a bit slack. You might just need to gently push it into place. That’s the best you can realistically do on your own.
