Hello everyone, I recently purchased a new PC with the following specifications: Asus Prime X870-P WiFi AM5 ATX motherboard, Ryzen 7 9800X3D, ld360 LCD liquid cooler, Leadtek RTX 5080, Hurricane graphics card, 16GB GDDR7 DDR5 RAM, 6000MHz, Samsung 990 Pro SSD, PCIe 4.0 M.2 NVMe drive, Xigmatek Fury 850 power supply, and a MonoXr mid-tower ATX case. I connected it to my Samsung S95C TV using an HDMI 2.1 cable. The problem I’m experiencing is that the screen sometimes blacks out when I enable HDR or raise the display refresh rate above 60Hz. This happens not only during gaming but also when idle. Changing either setting resolves the issue, but switching them back causes problems again. I’ve tested different HDMI 2.1 cables and ports on the TV, yet the issue remains. Could you please help or offer advice? Thank you.

Perform a complete GPU driver update (use DDU to reset them). If unsuccessful, attempt using a previous version.

Sure, sharing the precise TV model will give a clearer picture. It helps understand how the device handles settings versus what Windows interprets.

It's a Samsung S95C with four 4K 144Hz ports. It only supports up to 40Gbps, but minor adjustments still trigger the blackout on the TV. Other devices I've used don't have this problem. My PS5 Pro connects in and plays all supported resolutions smoothly with HDR enabled. Netflix also works perfectly in 4K with HDR.

I’m thinking about a few possibilities. The HDMI cable length might be an issue, but it seems you’ve already tested some cables on your existing devices like the PlayStation. If not, a longer cable could weaken the signal and lead to problems. I’m not sure if this is the main cause, but I want to mention it just in case.

My guess leans more toward your TV settings rather than the PC. I noticed someone suggested turning off HDR10+ and using basic HDR instead—it might be tailored for consoles and could explain why it doesn’t work on your PC. Another point is disabling VRR or G-Sync, which some users report causing similar issues.

One post mentioned a similar situation but said a Samsung technician had to replace the TV’s main board because of a known problem with that model. Hope this gives you some direction, though I’m still unsure.

I purchased another HDMI 2.1 cable from ugreen and managed to turn on 4K144 with HDR. But this only worked on my desktop; in games it keeps crashing. I’m confused about why that happens. When I set Max Payne 3 at 4K144 with all settings up, it worked smoothly. However, the resolution was 4096x2160 then. Could this be the problem now?

These appear to be concerns about bandwidth and display cables. Would you like some 4K monitors that support DisplayPort for testing purposes?
