Purchased a used 2020 ROG Zephyrus M15, everything worked until this issue. It only occurs during normal browser use—like switching to desktop mode or watching videos. The screen freezes instantly but audio stays playable. Pressing Ctrl+Win+Shift+B resolves it. It happens unexpectedly, not during gaming, suggesting the Intel UHD Graphics might be the culprit. All drivers are current (both NVIDIA and Intel). I ran a clean Windows 10 install, then upgraded to Windows 11, but the problem persists. I struggle with laptops that switch between GPUs, but can I make them rely solely on the RTX at all times? It would be better for battery life and cooling, though it’s not perfect. Buying used is uncertain.

Hello! I was just checking this out. I managed to turn off the built-in graphics in Device Manager, but I couldn’t find it in BIOS. My laptop only runs at 2070 and everything else feels slow. The Windows display freezes at 60Hz and won’t let me switch back to 240Hz because the settings menu isn’t showing up. It’s not smooth at all—it looks choppy. I searched for fixes but didn’t find anything. Maybe the issue is built-in, or the graphics card needs to be enabled for Windows. From what I saw, using the dGPU might be necessary, and turning it off makes Windows appear larger. Adjusting the scaling to 100% when the iGPU is on seems to help things look better. It’s risky buying used gear, but these kinds of surprises are worth trying.

It seems the issue might be related to hardware rather than software. After reinstalling Windows 10 and 11 along with updating drivers, the problem persists. It appears to occur with both your laptop's monitor and any other connected display. Have you experimented with different power settings in Windows?

I found a solution! I reduced the refresh rate and there were no freezes since yesterday and early today after some browsing. The main issue was that my laptop only let me pick between 60Hz and 240Hz in the Advanced Display settings, but I quickly resolved it using Custom Resolution Utility—software discovered from the answer here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind...5857183149. It’s now working perfectly at 144Hz! Thanks for your help.

Using a display with an unusual refresh rate isn’t inherently bad, but it might cause issues if not handled properly. You can try boosting resolution with tools like Custom Resolution Utility to avoid crashes. If you’re unsure, 144Hz works fine for you.
