Hello, I recently performed a fresh installation of Windows 10 and upgraded to the newest release. For a few days everything functioned properly until suddenly Windows Search began behaving oddly. Pressing WIN + S fills the entire screen with black and dominates the remaining area. I've included a picture to illustrate the issue. Can you help me find a way to restore the search to its original condition? The search feature still works, but it appears distorted. Thanks for your assistance.

Open Task Manager, navigate to Details, and end the process named SearchUI.exe.

Check the desktop icons again. They may have disappeared.

You don't have SearchUI.exe installed. The only programs running are SearchApp.exe and SearchIndexer.exe. I think you might have confused them. The black screen appears only when you trigger the search function. Under normal Windows use, everything displays correctly. It's just the search button (WIN + S) that causes the issue. Thanks for the tip!

I'm truly sorry for the confusion. Let me clarify what you need. Please follow these actions: Use the Windows Search and Indexing troubleshooter to resolve any issues. Begin by opening Start, then choosing Settings. In Windows Settings, navigate to Update & Security, then select Troubleshoot. Under Find and fix other problems, pick Search and Indexing. Launch the troubleshooter and choose applicable issues. Windows will attempt to identify and fix them. You may also run a command prompt: press Windows logo key +R, type cmd in the box, and click OK. In the command prompt, execute: msdt.exe -ep WindowsHelp id SearchDiagnostic. Additionally, you can try using Cortana for assistance.

Unfortunately the issue persists. Edit: It appears the problem only happens when hiding the search bar from the taskbar. I prefer not to display it as it uses too much space.
