It's possible your i 7 2600 isn't compatible with the Dell OptiPlex x 7 90 S FF because it requires an L GA 115 6 port while the device uses an L GA 115 5. This claim isn't accurate. The Intel Core i7-2600 is designed for LGA1155 socket. It's probable the CPU won't fit because of its higher power consumption. I suggest considering the Core i7-2600S, which matches the 65 W TDP requirement.

They function well in my 2100, though a couple of pins were bent during the initial removal of the old CPU, which I later repaired.
