You were tricked on Steam by someone you met, and now you're unsure how to handle the situation. It's completely normal to feel upset.

He likely used a clever tactic to redirect the payment through an intermediary service. It probably involved PayPal or another platform to obscure the transaction, making it appear as a legitimate purchase while actually handling the funds for a third party. This kind of middleman scheme is often used in scams to avoid direct accountability.

Visit his profile and file a report for scam activity, sharing all supporting evidence. You can also reach out to Steam support directly. Valve treats scams seriously, so detailed information increases your chances of recovering your items. If the transaction was legitimate, there are no links or PayPal involved. Outside of Steam, any scam is your responsibility.

You captured images of every attempt to reach their help. This doesn’t ensure a solution, but it’s a good effort.

Take lessons from your errors and handle them effectively; Steam support is unlikely to assist much.

The new system won’t let you reclaim your items. The friend fell victim to a scam and was warned: “Unless your account was stolen—through hacking rather than trickery—then you’re out.”

It's true they handle things casually, with lots of fraudsters slipping through. The system often redirects trades to other accounts or sells them off, making it hard to identify the source.

Did you know Valve was really upset about scammers during the early days of TF2 trading?

Used to have those old rules, but now everyone seems to be dealing with the new ones.
