I’m preparing to set up Windows 8.1 and format the two HDDs soon. The save file I need is The Witcher, but progress is slow and I don’t want to lose it. I have the “My Documents” file, but I can’t locate others. Are there additional save files elsewhere in the directory? Also, can Steam upload saved files to their servers?

Transfer the files to a USB drive or another storage device, then put them inside your savegame directory during the reinstallation process.

Save and configuration files are typically listed on PC Gaming Wiki. However, it seems you’ve already located what you’re looking for. Steam offers cloud saving for specific titles, but it’s usually handled automatically when a save is created. If your saved games are stored locally, you’ll need to back them up manually.

You might be mistaken since I haven't replayed TW1 recently, but the save you mentioned is correct. For TW2, cloud storage is an option so you won’t lose your savegames, though I’d suggest turning it off. Occasionally, it’s a good idea to remove some savegames and keep only essential ones (like at the start of a chapter or before major choices). This helps because having too many files slows down loading and can cause crashes. Good luck and happy hunting!

Consider storing files once completed. W2 allows saving which can then move to W3, similar to how they worked in the initial game.
