Save file fails to load in Skyrim.
Heyo, I've started Skyrim recently and kept adding mods through Nexus Mod Manager. After setting up an ENB and piling on texture packs, performance dropped significantly (reaching around 35 fps). I realized the balance between visuals and speed matters, so I decided to wipe out the game folder and try again. When I did that, a warning popped up: "this save relies on content that's not available." That’s normal since the save tracks which mods are active. Earlier it worked fine, just loading only the installed ones. This time though, the game crashed to desktop at the loading screen with all available saves. I thought removing only essential mods—like some weapon packs—would fix it, but that didn’t help. My concern is what else might cause the crash when loading a save. I’ve installed every mod linked to the save, yet it still fails. The game seems to launch normally afterward, so the problem appears to be specific to saving and loading.
Your save file contains leftover scripts that can lead to crashes. Use SaveGameScriptCleaner to resolve the problem.
I noticed a suggestion on the Steam forums to try that, but it hasn’t worked. The game can’t load the very first save before the character creator, which is unusual since I didn’t have any mods at that time. The program linked mentions removing orphaned scripts, so it should be clean.
I’ve tried most of the utility tools and cut down the save size significantly, but it still crashes when loading. If you need only essential items like inventory and quests, there might be a way to transfer just those parts between saves.
No, there isn't. Accepting that it might erase your save file is part of the modding process.
In the future, continue using the cleaner tool often and verify load orders. I once had nearly 300 mods without any instability thanks to this (I generally avoided heavily scripted mods and those prone to crashes).
I don't know any enb that ignores your frame rates. I've already tested project ENB, sharpshooter's, and both affected my FPS noticeably.
I didn't rely heavily on Mella Vonna, as it performed well. RealVision works nicely when you disable Ambient Occlusion and Depth of Field, along with a few other ENBs. Of course, 4k textures didn't improve things much. The Seasons of Skyrim texture for parallax was a decent choice but added some load. People say Vividian is better for performance.
