Eventually things unfolded as expected. I barely grasped the inner workings to keep going. In a way, the Asus P55-US3L motherboard proved wise enough to prevent my CPU from overheating. At the moment I first checked it, temperatures reached 95ºC across all four cores. I wasn’t sure what the safe limit should be until I started digging deeper. It seemed to manage the heat better, which helped reduce stutters and improved performance under stress. Everything functioned smoothly—especially with my older Intel Core I5 from 2009 running at full speed. Then came PUBG. I quickly bought a budget DeepCool Gammax 300 (20€) to swap out my original fan, bringing the temps down to 50º-70ºC. After a few days, everything ran perfectly (50-90 FPS in ultra without any overclocking). Until now, the free-to-run CPU forced my old 500W power supply to shut down completely. Now I own a NOX Urano vx750 and can even adjust clock speeds if needed. I’m still a motherboard and CPU, but I’ve been through some upgrades recently. If it holds up a bit longer, I’ll definitely install a case and keep it in my room forever. Thanks for the tips and insights—mostly helpful!
For those in Bloomfield I’d also need to upgrade the motherboard. I found that the top CPU for my LGA 1156 is the Core I7-875k/880, but they’re expensive and would only make things worse (GTX-1060). As mentioned in the solution post, anyone can easily achieve around 50-90 FPS on ultra gaming PUBG. Still, I’m curious about the most affordable motherboard setup today. I plan to research overclocking a bit without hitting any limits and share my findings later. peace
