I older motherboard, Asus x99 Deluxe II, and the new one I own (as mentioned) include this small SATA port beside the main ones. The packaging didn’t come with a cable for it, and the instructions didn’t reference it. Do you know what it is? It seems similar to a standard SATA connector, but the longer part of the L is roughly half its usual size.

It might be a SATA-Express adapter. Picture two SATA ports on the right and a SATA-Express connector on the left. What I understand is a connector that merges SATA and PCIe connections, similar to how M.2 works today.
