It worked and the second screen appears now, which is why it happened. I'm trying to figure out a way to power off the monitor without unplugging it, as the Power Off option in the menu doesn't seem to work. Anyone have suggestions?
power off is just the software shutdown process. My old Dell also had that issue—when it wasn’t on, it would make a strange whine. I kept it running because it was easier than figuring out how to turn it off properly. As long as nothing was being used, it used very little power. I once had a power strip with a switch so I could shut down the monitor without cutting off my system.
