Samsung M393B1K70DH0-YK0 isn't working properly at 1600MHz on your Supermicro board.
Hi, yesterday I performed a rebuild of my Unraid server after securing a good deal on a Supermicro H8DCL-i board that came with two Opteron 4184 chips. I purchased 32GB of Samsung M393B1K70DH0-YK0 memory rated at 1600MHz, but it’s only running at 1333MHz in the BIOS. I have four 8GB sticks, split between two slots per CPU, since it's a dual-board setup. The available options are either Auto or Manual, and Manual settings range from 200MHz to 933MHz depending on the memory clock. In theory, 800MHz should translate to 1600MHz if correct, but even with that setting, the RAM speed remains unchanged. I’ve carefully followed the motherboard manual for memory configuration, here’s the link to my board: https://www.supermicro.com/Aplus/motherb...8DCL-i.cfm. As a newcomer to server boards, this might indicate an incompatibility since this specific RAM isn’t listed on the tested memory list. Do you have any experience with Supermicro boards? Also, could this issue be linked to the CPU? This board supports newer processors, but the manual doesn’t clarify whether certain CPU generations have memory restrictions. Thanks in advance!
You're welcome. It's clear you had some confusion, but the 1600MHz frequency is possible only with a 4200 or 4300 series Opteron that the board supports. Appreciate the clarification.
