I purchased a 990pro and after setting it up it doesn’t seem to recognize it. I’ve checked various forums and videos, but I’m stuck. I’ve used both M.2 slots, done a fresh Windows install, adjusted many BIOS settings, yet it still won’t appear. I’m curious if there are any steps I can take before giving it back. My system specs are: Ryzen 7 5800x, Asrock B450 steel legend 6650xt, WD SN570 500GB, BIOS version p4.60, and I’m running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit.

You can test it on another machine or ask a friend to try it on their PC.

I got you reflecting and figured out a way to use the PS5. I discovered two key points. The drive works and after taking it off, it felt warm, indicating the PC is directing power through the SSD.

Have you attempted to access the disk partition? It might mean the drive isn't assigned yet, so you'll need to allocate the necessary space.

Check if Disk Management appears after launching it. Look for specific tips that address common issues. Avoid repeating already mentioned steps.

Are your system details current? Think about these points: * M2_2, SATA3_3 and SATA3_4 use the same lanes. If any is active, the rest will stop working. * PCIE4 becomes inactive if M2_1 is in use. Also note: 1 x M.2 socket (M2_2) supports M key types 2230/2242/2260/2280/22110, SATA3 6.0 Gb/s and M.2 PCIe Gen3 x2 (16 Gb/s). Updated March 24, 2024 by leclod

It occurred to me last year after installing an M2 drive at my workstation. Using Aoemi Partition Assistant helped configure it, and the Windows transfer from my SSD proceeded smoothly.

I experimented with various configurations using half SSDs and adjusted BIOS settings, yet it failed. Could you provide more details? I downloaded AOMEI partition Assistant, but the drive isn’t visible. Are there specific steps I should consider? The main points usually involve formatting the drive with a disk partition. It’s important to ensure fast boot is disabled and disable ing CSM. Windows updates are also essential. This covers the most common solutions you might find in forums about formatting drives. Your theory seems sound—maybe the hardware mismatch is the issue. Regarding your concern about compatibility, it appears possible if the motherboard only supports PCIe 3 while the drive uses PCIe 4. I’d appreciate confirmation before you purchase a replacement.

PCIe supports both backward and forward compatibility, meaning a PCIe 4.0 device can operate in a 3.0 port (and the same applies). The device will function in a backward-compatible setting while running at PCIe 3.0 speeds.
