Hello, I’m interested in purchasing a Samsung 980 PRO PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSD with a capacity of 2TB and installing it in the fastest m.2 slot on an ASRock X670E PG Lightning ATX AM5 board. On the motherboard’s storage options, it doesn’t list the 2TB model, only the 1TB version. Does this indicate the 2TB drive won’t fit at all, or is it simply missing from the official QVL? If the latter, does anyone have any insights on pairing a 2TB Samsung 980 PRO PCIe 4.0 with this motherboard in the top performance slot? I’d also appreciate suggestions for alternative 2TB PCIe 4.0 drives if the Samsung model isn’t compatible. Thanks.

It functions fine but won't support PCIe 5.0 because the device isn't a 5.0 SSD.

Later though, as @filpo mentioned, Pcie works both ways and is backward compatible, so you can use all M.2 NVMe devices on it. Even though only one slot is designed for M.2 SATA drives, these are becoming less common since NVMe units are now cheaper to produce.

Thanks for the update. I thought things would go smoothly, but I was a bit hesitant since it wasn’t included in the QVL list.
