You’ll have to replace your motherboard, but you’re using a backup combo right now. It seems you might need a Windows key for activation. If they give you a new board later, will you still need another key? Just make sure it’s the same model.

You're correct, the same key will work again. You might still need to activate your phone for it to function properly.

Sure, hopefully it works. I’ll check once I get my motherboard back.

You're allowed to use it without activation for 30 days. However, a new mobile from RMA will also count as a new activation. If you possess a retail key, there should be no issues. OEMs can sometimes be complicated.

The Win7 OEM version remains usable, though I’m uncertain about Win8 and later. Found some tutorials on how to make them work.

Your hardware GUID has changed significantly, affecting many devices on the motherboard. Microsoft requires you to re-arm your activation. You can use the same code, but each one is limited to a certain number of uses (unless it's a KMS key, then unlimited activation applies via your volume licensing account). It should work without issues, though in extreme cases you may need to contact MS. If internet activation fails, consider phone activation—explain clearly that it’s the same computer and that re-activation is needed once the repaired motherboard returns. Most often they restore all activation rights if you follow this process.

I won’t turn on the temporary CPU because that chip is already dead. I’ll stay on my laptop until the motherboard comes back online after RMA, then I’ll check what’s going on.
