I upgraded my system with 8700k, two 16GB RAM sticks at 4000MHz, a 2x8GB setup running at 2400MHz, and a GTX 1080 Ti. I’m hoping this will boost my FPS since I’m currently around 200 in Overwatch. My friend has a similar build—8086k with four 8GB RAMs at 3200MHz—and consistently hits 300+ frames without any bottlenecks. He’s not sure what he’s checking, but he seems confident. I’ve also reinstalled Windows and updated the drivers.

Upgrading RAM probably won’t make much difference unless it’s the bottleneck, like if it’s slowing down your CPU. Confirm that Overwatch uses identical configurations (settings and resolution) on both systems.

He has a less powerful GPU yet a quicker CPU, which means the main slowdown is likely from the CPU side. RAM performance might only improve by about 5%.

Overwatch runs on its most basic configuration. People say it’s really demanding memory usage, which can slow things down. My friend sees better results after changing the RAM settings, but their GPU still limits performance.

They mentioned that your setup is more affected by CPU speed than memory. While quicker RAM could boost performance slightly, reaching 200 to 300 FPS would require a 50% improvement. Did you look at the GPU load while playing using tools like MSI Afterburner?

The 8086k clocks are higher than the 8700k Dual rank versus single rank, suggesting the 3200 4x8 kit might be just as fast or even faster than your 4000 kit. You might be getting a discount if performance is your priority. If you need top speed, consider switching to a dual-rank setup with 2x16 HMA82gu6djr8n sticks available in 2666-3200 JEDEC bins, which typically run around 4400 MHz or higher depending on your IMC settings. Manual tuning will always improve XMP performance and is essential if you want maximum speed. For single-rank builds, XMP usually suffices and can get you about 80% of the performance potential. Performance doesn’t mean it’s perfect, but it won’t be ideal due to being single-rank. If you install another friend’s RAM, try a fresh Windows installation to rule out OS issues—different drives might help, or you could create a separate 50-100GB partition for the new OS and keep your current drive for your system.

GPU usage stays near 60-70% while CPU remains under 50%, even with MSI Afterburner and Chrome running in the background. No single core is experiencing spikes.

CPU under stress and blue screen occurrences remain consistent across all default configurations. RAM type has no impact on this behavior. If the CPU appears faulty, it may be a hardware issue.

Adjust the CPU core ratio to 40 and Vcore to 1.25v for better stability. It seems RAM issues might be coming from the RAM settings, possibly due to low VCCSA/IO values.
