Yes, that might be a viable choice. The main issue would be that my coworkers wouldn’t understand how to execute it.

I set up an admin and local account. From the admin I went to /user/username/ and adjusted permissions so the local account only had read and execute access on desktop. I took out the trashcan icon from the desktop, removed all program icons from the start menu and shortcuts to settings and folders, turned off taskbar icons except time and sound, and hidden the search bar. When the machine starts, everything looks consistent—children can't rename, delete, or remove desktop icons. To add icons, copy-paste the shortcut into /user/username/desktop from the admin account. When they open the start menu it shows just a blank box with power and user buttons. It’s simple but should help avoid mistakes.
