Safe overclock fx8350?
Safe overclock fx8350?
You should consider installing AMD Overdrive as a precaution and review the CPU Status page's Thermal Margins. Third-party temperature gauges may not be reliable for models like fx8320 or fx8350, often displaying temperatures lower than actual readings. Adjusting these values in monitoring tools can cause the displayed temperature to appear higher under load. The Thermal Margin numbers indicate how close the CPU is to its safe operating limit; a margin near zero signals overheating and potential throttling. For stable overclocking, aim for a Thermal Margin of at least 15 under heavy workload (Prime95 peak heat). If you notice throttling, check processor frequency/voltage trends over an hour of intensive use—downward spikes will appear. +1 to AMD Overdrive is recommended, though readings may be inaccurate below 40°C due to non-physical temperature calculations. Once temperatures stabilize above 40°C, HWmonitor and Coretemp generally provide accurate data for overdrive settings.
Thanks for the feedback. I believe I stay at 4,4ghz, though 4,5ghz could work stably. The voltage drop on 4,4 and temperature reduction it causes make me feel more confident with the OC. Is there a significant difference between 4,5 and 4,4ghz?
You can easily push your chip further (max "recommended" temperatures are 62c for core and 72c for socket)
Tbh i dont really care;

E: You have ~15c headroom still for safe overclocking on both the socket & core.
i believe the most stable setup i own includes the 8350 running at 5ghz, a crosshair formula z with the fx8350 at 5.16ghz using 1.48 volts, a 32gb od corsair memory, an ssdrive 240gb with 1 terabyte of extra space, and cooling via the hydro series corsair 100i in a master stryker case equipped with six fans. additionally, it can handle 100 watts with two gtx 970 graphics cards—please feel free to use this guide to assist you, and good luck!
