Sabre versus F7C Hornet versus Gladiator in Star Citizen - a thrilling matchup!
So here's my problem, I think that all of these ships would be nice, but am wondering your opinion. Here are the pros and cons of each one based on my needs. Sabre- Looks super nice, has two gimbaled weapon mounts, and two hardpoints at the nose. However this ship is not out yet, and I don't know if I like it. Based on the specs I do though. F7C Hornet- Only has two lazer cannons, but still takes down enemies fast. However, these overheat massively. Flies great. Gladiator- All four lazer cannons are gimbaled, and barely overheat. that is very nice. Can take down a lot of enemies very quickly. Has many torpedoes, which are good for larger targets. However this ship is super slow and cannot turn for anything. I think in the PU this would be a good ship. It's also kinda ugly and large. Anything else I've missed, please tell me about as this will most likely be my first good ship. and I'm not filthy stink'n rich, soooo yah... And I'm new at this whole thing, so thanks a lot for all your help.
I chose the Sabre since it's a solid performance plane in real life.
Regarding the overheating concern, it might be related to updates in the module system. We could adjust the cooling mechanisms for the rest of the setup, though I'm not a combat pilot.
The three vessels each have subtle variations, so the ideal choice will likely match your personal flying preferences. The key distinctions that matter most would be: Gladiator, essentially a bomber with limited maneuverability, currently performs well against single-target engagements and lacks strong dogfighting ability when facing a turreted opponent. Its missiles will become valuable once they’re available, though I’m sure. Hornet offers the flexibility to mount two size-1 weapons on its nose once an attachment is installed, making it a solid dogfighter despite slower speed. Sabre was designed as a direct counter to the Hornet and Super Hornet, aiming for agility similar to Gladius but with far more powerful armament. Ultimately, it comes down to personal style since each ship brings its own strengths. I’d recommend the Hornet for its reliability and proven performance, though Sabre could be a compelling alternative if you value firepower. Gladiator is less forgiving in close combat but can be effective with the right setup.
Discussing the standard hornet, its price stands out as quite reasonable when compared to the others.
Sabre or nothing for me. Sabre might beat the Civilian Hornet, but it could be more exciting against the Super Hornet—we'll just have to wait. Uncertain about how the Gladiator was used, but it seems fair compared to the Hornet and Sabre. Ultimately, it depends on what you're aiming for in the match.
