S21 Ultra experiences occasional restarts during use.
So after Android 13 came out, my phone began restarting unexpectedly. Sometimes it didn’t happen at all, other times it would shut down every few seconds. Samsung advised me to bring it in for repair, but since it’s no longer covered under warranty, they suggested a possible motherboard problem costing around 700 AUD. I could pay 60 AUD for diagnostics to check if it’s software-related, but I’m unsure if that’s worth it. I searched online and found the EMMC might be faulty. I don’t think the battery is the issue because it restarts even when powered on fully. There’s no water damage, buttons aren’t stuck, and it works otherwise except for the frequent reboots. Anyone else have this problem? Is there a fix possible? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Remove unused applications one by one to check if stability improves. A poorly designed app can trigger reboots on your device but won’t display an error on your phone. This could indicate a hardware issue, so consider resetting your phone to factory settings after backing up your data.
I have already reset the device 5 times to factory settings. I spoke to a Samsung worker who said software shouldn't be ruled out as the OS its self could just be really badly bug-ridden and to wait till the next update but that would be the next monthly update.
You should clear the device completely, which will erase all information.
I don’t know much about Samsung phones, but you might try rolling back the latest update or restoring the previous system. These steps can sometimes fix issues on other devices too.
I completed a full reset, but it doesn't affect the vital systems in Android as described.
I received a notification and forwarded it to a certified Samsung technician. They confirmed the motherboard is faulty. Now I’m waiting to see if Samsung will extend the warranty or if I’ll have to pay $600 for a replacement board.
Good luck with Samsung. I’m hoping they’ll fix it for free. If they push for an extremely expensive repair, I’d switch to another brand. Of course, I’m not a big fan of top-end phones, but my Motorola has worked well for years and was much cheaper than a Samsung.
