Hello, I own an i7-9700K in an Asus PRime Z390-P. I have two queries. First, my graphics card (Gigabyte 1080 Windforce) is in the second PCIe slot. When assembling the system, the manual didn’t mention any bandwidth differences between the first and second slots. I’ve double-checked now and still can’t confirm whether there’s a difference. I’m planning to install an NVMe SSD (Seagate Barracude 510) and want to know if swapping the PCIe slots is necessary. Second, I’m planning to use this machine for several years and thought about upgrading to an i9-9900K if I can find a good price. I searched online and found discussions suggesting that upgrading isn’t recommended. I wanted to verify if that’s still widely accepted. The build was budget-focused, but I’m thinking of small improvements like better fans (Rosewill ROCF-13001 vs Artic or Noctuas?) or a more efficient CPU cooler (CM212 Evo). I’ve attached a parts list for reference.
The second position will operate at x8, placing it in the top slot for optimal performance. The NVMe drive will access the chipset lanes, which shouldn't interfere with the GPU 2. It might not be worth it—keep the 9700k until you perform a full platform update if that's your case.
