You notice low performance even at high settings, using the 8700K and 2080 Ti XC2 Ultra. It looks like enabling SSAA at level 4 is likely the issue.
I feel ya on that one I got a ton of games during this current Steam Summer Sale cause they’re just so friggin’ cheap! Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, Doom Eternal, Metro 1-3, Dark Souls 3, Detroit Become Human, etc., Although I gotta say, I played DBH first of these and it’s an amazing game I would recommend to anyone. The graphics are incredible and the story is great.
It could be due to the different game versions we're using. I'm playing the original release, not the Redux update. I've installed the Redux version and it functions as expected. Lower settings seem okay for SSAA, x2 was about 105fps and 0.5 was around 125fps, without any noticeable changes.
It certainly deviates, but it stands out as the most significant change from the original material. This is largely because of where the final volume concluded, yet they certainly made some substantial choices. I’m okay with that. It helps progress the narrative effectively. I see value in allowing newcomers to engage while still satisfying veterans. Still, I’d suggest starting with the earlier titles first. It enhances the overall experience. After navigating through the dark, confined Metro of the initial two entries, it feels rewarding to finally reach the surface. There are aspects you’ll grasp instantly if you’ve played before. The game conveys most of the action clearly, but the first two provide deeper context. And if you’ve read or listened to all three volumes, you’ll spot inconsistencies right away. Nonetheless, I agree with the author’s stance on the matter. The developers were comfortable with the games straying from the source. Personally, I’d probably read the books first. I conquered 2033 Redux and a few levels of Last Light Redux before diving into the full series. It actually improved my enjoyment, as I could better align the story with the gameplay. It didn’t spoil anything because the games already incorporated many plot points from the books.
Running SSAA at x4 felt similar to achieving 8K resolution in terms of processing needs. Switching it off increased performance to around 215 FPS.
