s focus on installing a fresh Windows 10 setup without using the CDK.
I'm planning to assemble my PC and am considering this now. I've learned that you can boot Windows 10 from a USB and skip entering the CDK to set up the system. What are the main differences between using CDK and not using it? Feel free to adjust any of what I say.
this post is confusing for anyone unsure about the cd key. it explains that you can install without a license key, but once activated, a permanent 'activate windows' watermark appears everywhere, and you lose the ability to personalize settings like the desktop background.
It's just a 30-day trial, a great way to test the machine. After that period, it's likely to show a permanent popup requesting a key (don't let it get that far).
Where did you purchase your license? Retail licenses work on any PC setup. The Key is limited to one PC at a time. OEM licenses can be placed on the same hardware it was installed on. You cannot activate it on other PCs, especially those with a different motherboard and CPU.
OEM comes with a brand-new PC assembled by a maker. Connected to the device's hardware. One-time use, but may be reactivated by Microsoft upon request Retail is purchased from a store in a box containing a USB drive (for Windows 10)
They are also available through various retail and online stores.
