I’m thinking about purchasing a new SSD for Windows 10, but I’m unsure if I can download the latest OS onto it instead of my current drive. I want to know if during the Windows 10 installation it will automatically install on that SSD just like with Windows 7 from a fresh install. Wouldn’t it be better to ask Microsoft directly? After all, I usually get more assistance here than elsewhere.

Avoid installing Windows 7/8 on an SSD, don't try to upgrade from an HDD during the process, and remove the HDD before installing on the SSD.
