I'm asking this because I haven't set up my optical drive yet and I don't want to until I resolve everything. If the answer is yes, you still need to insert the disc each time, otherwise I'll reach out to Steam support. Thanks!

Steam isn't related to the disk. Unless you discover a NOCD crack, the disk must be installed on the system. It might be possible to extract the ISO and mount it, though success is uncertain around half the time.

Yes, once the files are installed and the shortcut is generated, you won't need to reinsert the disc.

Purchasing a physical disc doesn't connect to Steam and isn't linked to your account. Whether you need it every time the game starts depends on the title. Steam does offer a way to convert some physical copies into digital versions, see the supported list here: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_arti...-wusf-3601
