I understand the I7 7700k can get hot, especially with high workloads. After years of use, upgrading to an AIO 3 fan cooler like the Thermaltake Floe Riing 360 helped lower my idle temps to about 33 and gaming temps to 55-65. During stress tests, I usually see temperatures between 90-95°C, while normal tests stay around 70°C. Switching from a hyper 212 EVO to a 3-fan AIO reduced the heat by roughly 10°C, though it didn’t drop much. I’m at 1.275V @ 4.7GHz and wondering if others experience similar temps during intense tests. Is this typical? Should I consider lowering my voltage instead? Delidding could help too, but I’m a bit unsure. Thanks for your advice!
I believe the 7700K could save about 10 cents, though the exact amount might vary based on paste quality versus LM. My results were nearer to 15 cents. I'm actually using an IC diamond cooler. The lid will make a big difference. At 5GHz it won't handle 212 efficiently. I'd consider upgrading the cooler. The NH-D15 performs similarly to most compact AIOs in most situations. If you have enough case room, adding a third fan would help.
There are several factors involved. With your 6700k model, the temperature drop was around 15 degrees, and you improved it further in its current configuration. You're hoping for at least a 10-degree difference, possibly more. I used Thermal Grizzlies liquid metal, which might have contributed even more if their claims are accurate.
Recently performed a full removal of my 7700K. Crafted a custom replacement part for the TIM. Applied a very thin layer of pure indium about 0.25mm thick. Applied a minimal coating of my homemade "galinstan" liquid metal mix on both sides to ensure good adhesion. Shaped the indium around the CPU die using a plastic opening tool, creating a slight overhang of 2mm on all sides to secure positioning. Secured the IHS with the socket mechanism—bonding remains challenging at this stage. Mounted the processor using only the socket method (bonding is still tricky). Ran water cooling through an inexpensive water block and a 240mm radiator, achieving temperatures above 95°C under load as reported by the user. Currently, with PowerMAX in AVX mode, it reaches around 78°C max. Maximum clock speed is 4.8GHz across all cores (AVX and SSE). Other tasks rarely exceed 70°C. If this is your only removal attempt, I suggest those budget-friendly removal kits ($5)—definitely worth the effort for a 7700K.
