s about i7 6700k overclocking cooling
Hello,
I’m expecting the i7 6700k in the coming days and I’m still figuring out which cooler to choose.
I intend to overclock it moderately, aiming for around 4.5ghz, which seems reasonable according to what I’ve learned.
I’m considering the Noctua NH-D15 because it’s highly regarded, but it’s a bit expensive. I was wondering if there’s a more affordable option that still works well for my needs.
Would this be too much for me or is it suitable?
Thanks!
You can achieve the desired overclock using an item around $25, such as the Coolermaster Hyper212 EVO. The fan here is slightly louder than Noctua's, and your processor will operate a bit hotter, though it remains sufficient and affordable.
I've done some research and it looks like the Hyper212 EVO doesn't quite fit on your board (Asus Z170 Pro Gaming) since it blocks one of the RAM banks. It also seems tricky to mount properly, which is frustrating. However, if you're in a warm room, especially in summer, going with the Noctua might be a better choice. This model appears to be fairly straightforward to install correctly.
