Hello! I have a few questions about these processors. My cousin drew one on the motherboard pins with a black marker, and after cleaning it with a brush and alcohol, I see the results in pictures 1 and 2. Could I possibly install this on a motherboard? What are the chances it would work? I own a PC for free that has an i3 second generation chip; I don’t want to damage the board or worse. The i7 has a missing component on the back (possibly a capacitor) that you mentioned in picture 3. Does that affect its functionality? Should I test it with my PC, or should I avoid it just in case it causes problems with the motherboard and ruins it? I’m considering upgrading to one of these CPUs to improve performance for home or office use, but I want to keep the i3 for now since it’s slower. Thank you for your help!

It should likely work. In the worst case, it might not boot, but you shouldn't damage anything by trying it. A dead motherboard can harm a CPU, though that’s unlikely unless you change it in a way that’s not realistic. The i7 seems like a capacitor, and usually they’re unnecessary. It’s worth a try—it won’t ruin the board you have right now.

So the i7 functioned properly and I'm really pleased with that. The i5 didn't work; the motherboard emitted four beeps indicating a system error. Probably the i5 was from a PC with a faulty or damaged motherboard—though I'm not sure. Maybe cleaning the contacts with a metal tool and applying heat could help. I'm sure many of you know what to do, and hopefully this will resolve the issue if I have the necessary parts. Thanks for encouraging me to give it another try!
