Hi, d2 isn't something you like right off the bat. If you've tried d1, you'll notice there are more expansive areas, deeper stories, missions, patrols, and public events in this open world. The experience feels larger than just one game and I think it's a better one overall. You might want to check out some videos—they can give you a clearer picture than what I can say.
If I were you, I’d start by watching some gameplay to gauge your playstyle. So far, I’ve really enjoyed this game. My hardware lets me reach near maximum performance (refer to siggy for details), and I appreciate the immersive atmosphere Bungie created. It’s definitely a title worth trying, though it may not suit everyone’s preferences.
Running it on an I7 940 with a GTX 770 works fine. Default settings give good performance without any stutter. It should handle more load once the children go to bed in roughly ten hours.
I didn't pay for D1, but I'm really into D2. It's perfect if you love loot-based games and arcade-style shooters.
