Hello, I'm working on my gaming PC and trying to set up a safe overclock. I've been using 3D Mark for benchmarking, but whenever I adjust the offsets, temperature targets, and power targets, my CPU's performance drops. Does this mean I need to start overclocking? Please help me before I risk damaging my hardware. I just built this system myself. Here are the specs:

CPU: Intel Core i7-7700k Unlocked 4.2 GHZ
CPU cooler: Coolermaster Hyper T4 Direct contact
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z270X-UD3
Graphics card: NVIDIA Superclocked GeForce GTX 1070
Power Supply: EVGA 650 G2 80+ Gold Certified
Memory: 16 GB (2 x 8GB) ballistix DDR4
Storage: 1 TB desktop, 250 GB SSD
Case: Corsair Spec-02 Redshift
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 64-Bit

Be aware that the 7700k is experiencing temperature problems at the moment, so it’s best not to push it beyond its limits.
For your 1070, you can try overclocking—it won’t cause any damage.

Take note that the 7700k is currently experiencing temperature problems, so it’s best not to overclock it.
For your 1070, you can safely overclock it—there’s no risk involved.
You’re correct about the temperature concerns; I initially assumed it was related to thermal paste or cooling, but good to hear it’s not a system-specific issue. Thanks for clarifying!
