just set up. idle temperature is 47° with NHD15. is that typical? my previous Ryzen was 40C and I know power consumption for X3D is quite low since it's more sensitive to voltage. 47°C during idle seems a bit high. I installed the chipset driver but haven't seen the Ryzen power plan. is this still relevant? about Infinity Fabric – does it mean memory controller speed needs adjustment? what does that term look like in the BIOS?
It's a little high, my experience in a 21C ambient room was 40C with a similar cooler (AK620), but we don't know how your ambient temp is. What's the load temps? Correct, the FCLK is no longer tied to the memory frequency and has no benefit being in a static ratio between the two. There is a ratio that matters, the memory controller to memory clock ratio, though usually you want this to be 1:1 rather than 2:1. If you're at or below 6000MT/s, it will default to 1:1 mode and you don't need to worry about it. If you do want to check, the frequency is referred to as "UCLK"
The 7000 AM5 CPU operates warmly, aiming for a 95°C thermal threshold before further issues arise. Observing 47°C during idle isn't concerning, and my 7700x behaves similarly if not hotter. No worries. The first video provides an explanation, and both are worth watching to understand how the CPU functions—completely distinct from other CPUs available today.
they're built to handle heat, so I focus on improving cooling—high fan speeds help prevent buildup. It's not a big deal as long as things stay cool, but I'd go for it anyway. A few fans are surprisingly effective and definitely worth the investment. I usually stick with "Windows Balanced" because it performs well across all Ryzen models.
The 7800X3D stands out as a remarkably straightforward chip for cooling. AMD has adjusted its configuration so it consumes no power and stays cool. The maximum temperature I've observed in testing reaches 85°C during Cinebench R23, while other intensive tasks keep it below 60°C. While it feels quite hot by X58 benchmarks, it remains negligible compared to today's CPU norms.
I checked the BIOS, but UCLK isn't listed. Your CPU model is 53C—voltages seem within normal ranges.
I've mostly watched the GN videos... they seem to use less power now while performance remains similar. Still needs cooling—based on my experience, you really need to adjust fan speeds to keep temperatures comfortable (for me, idle is around 500°C CPU, 500°C exhaust, 900°C front, GPU off, PSU 780W). Ideal temps are below 40°C.
ASUS lacks this setting in the Extreme Tweaker section; it appears in the Advanced > AMD Overclocking area. It’s hidden there, making it hard to locate, especially since you’re focused on DDR5 6000. At that level, it defaults to a 1:1 configuration. In multi-threaded tasks without extra cache usage, performance drops noticeably compared to the 7700X—around 20-21K versus 18-19K for the 7800X3D. The lower clock speeds (~5.5GHz max) and reduced power consumption make it easier to manage heat. For more details, see TechPowerUp’s review; they note the 7800X3D rarely reaches its TJMax outside niche conditions.
operates efficiently under lower loads, staying within ~130W max even with PBO2 across all cores. (Actually, I don’t run PBO2 anymore—it’s not a big deal and saves effort. Temp drops naturally, but I rarely use the CPU; the main strain is on RPCs3 and video editing, which I handle with the GPU.) * Same as my 3600, MSI really likes these — illegal power settings, hehe!
