s about 2011 motherboard 3-pin headers and Y splitters
Hi, I'm working with an old Acer IPSB-VR motherboard (rev 1.01). I'm planning to upgrade to a Corsair 280x case and need to connect two 120mm fans using a 4-pin Y splitter. The specs say about 0.30A per fan, totaling around 0.60A. Concerned about damaging the 3-pin header from the old board—especially since it might not handle more power. Also, I'm unsure what the maximum power the original header can supply. The new fans use less current, but I want to make sure the header isn't overloaded or damaged.
I've tried various adapters and splitters before, and a fan splitter seems to be the most reliable option.
Only very fast fans such as 2.0A or above can damage the header. I’ve used a Delta high-speed fan before—it melted the connector (not a fire, just burned), and it was connected via Molex from the PSU with an adapter, not directly to the motherboard (too dangerous).
