I prefer Ubuntu the most because it feels like a non-Linux distribution. Yet it is genuine. Attractive design, solid performance, and all the essential tools you require—except for... well, some Windows-only functions.

I favor Linux Mint instead of Ubuntu since I dislike the cluttered menu layout in Ubuntu. Unity is not great! For a cleaner look, consider Elementary OS on macOS. If you enjoy minimalism, PC BSD is a solid choice.

Linux Mint, newest release. If you're a college student or have an .edu address, you might want to visit dreamspark.com to download a free Windows Industry Pro version.

Ubuntu stands out as a top free operating system, though it remains based on Linux, meaning you’ll need to study or follow guides for installation!
