In my view, the top CPU for gaming is the i9 9900k (KF). It's also the most waterproof option.

The fourth generation offers about a 15% boost in IPC, likely matching the single-core speed improvement. This means you can upgrade to a 4000-series processor on the same motherboard later. For Intel, I don't believe the 1151V2 will receive another generation. Instead, you might get a solid X570 with a 3700X and eventually move to the fourth-gen 1080p Ultra. However, at higher resolutions like 1440p or 4K, the performance gains won't be as significant.
